@MalibuRon - Just an FYI, the basic engine is a GM design, pretty much a crate engine with marine capability (anti corrosion and spark contained components).  The marinizer (Indmar, Mercruiser, etc) add their ancillaries and tune.

As for the Lucas ‘selling points’, the cats do see all the engine blow by so there could be some oil formulation that plays nicer with them.  Hard to say as they don’t provide any real details other than 25 wt v 15 wt on startup as a difference.  For a boat, a straight weight oil would work fine unless you really do use your drysuit:-)

Yes, the previous owner took it to a local boat mechanic after I complained to him about it. He had it checked out as far as fluids etc. but did not drive it.

Given how easy it is (and the possible errors of checking it on a trailer with uneven ground) I highly encourage you take the 15 seconds to check it yourself, on the water.  Note that depending on how you use the dipstick it could actually be low...hat tip: @Engine Nut

Additionally, if the transmission fluid hasn't been changed in the last 2-3 seasons I'd definitely change it.

    • Note that I have an acme 537 13.5x16 prop if that matters!

    • Hi! I have a 2002 Malibu Sunscape LSV 23. Manual wedge. Diamond Hull. I run a Ronix Eight 3 Shaper (velcro) and a few inconsistent fat sacs in the rear lockers. Sometimes 150s, sometimes 300s. - usually 4-6 adults in the boat. I get an inconsistent wave, sometimes awesome and i can drop the rope, other times just slush with no obvious wave and it's hard to drop the rope. Have a hard time getting up to speed (i have aftermarket perfect pass set to 11.5 but usually don't get there).

Anyway, I live in colorado and I'd love to 1) get some plumbed in (two ways) ballast; throwing the pump over the side is hard with little kids running around and 2) understand what's else I should be doing with the setup to make the wave work better, more consistently. The manual wedge is supposed to be 1k pounds of downward pressure.

Any suggestions on 1 or 2 would be amazing! We surf boyd lake in colorado and I am not handy enough to do any of it myself.

    • May be time to cut the losses and hire a pro marine audio shop.

if you have a volt/ohm meter, ohm the new woofer to make sure the old amp didnt burn the voice coil.

      Ohm the entire woofer circuit.

The info provided that a 5 channel amp was installed in place of the old 2 channel. Did the existing 4 chnl driving the cabin speakers get pulled and the cabin speakers get relocated to the new 5 chnl? If so, is the 5th chnl (hopefully thats the channel the woofer got wired to) getting a proper audio signal either direct or via pass-thru?
