I'd suggest separate amps for the in boat and the sub. That way you can more closely match the power ratings on the sub.

With 400 watts I'm not sure you would be happy with the output. Unless you are running a low power sub of course.

I would agree with doing a separate amp for the sub if he wants lots of bass with a high powered sub.

On the other hand, I am running 8 Wet Sounds 6.5's and a JL 10" w6v3 in a ported box off of a Kicker 48KXMA900.5 and I am very happy with the output. The sub sounds great running at 400 watts and matches the volume of the in boat speakers great. The 4 Rev 10's can overpower the sub if they are turned way up, but that's a whole different story.

Looking at a 1500W 5-channel Rockford Marine amp to just replace everything.  4x 100W RMS to tower speakers and 1x 400w RMS to sub.  Anyone have any positive or negative experience there?

I have not owned that model amp from Rockford, but my old boat had 2 of their marine Punch series amps and I really liked them and had zero issues. That M5-1500X5 should be a little powerhouse and I would have no concerns about it working good for you if that's the route you wanted to go.

Also, if you switch to a 1 ohm or 2 ohm sub, you can push it at 600 watts with that amp. That would be what I would suggest if you need to buy a new subwoofer anyways.

Has anyone installed LED rings for the new style grill on Westsounds 8" speakers (cabin and tower).   My last boat had the Malibu style Rev8s and there were some compatibility issues with standard rings.

If anyone has any experience with the most expensive round pieces of plastic on earth that would be awesome.

    • Where are these diagrams from?  Are they available for all models?
