On 2019 and older upper 12" Malibu screens, you will need to remove the two Allen bolts on the back of the  screen housing to remove the display.

Thanks for that! Super helpful. I don't remember seeing those but I was dreading taking the helm apart.

      One has to wonder????

One thing Malibu is certainly guilty of here is putting WAY to much power with one dealer.  It seems incredibly risky to make a single dealer or group responsible for over 1/3rd of your total volume.  Then to make matters worse, convince them to take on way too much inventory.  While someone at the dealer has to okay the inventory, someone at Malibu also thought it would be okay to shove a huge pile of inventory on a essentially a single dealer even if they are spread throughout the country.  If that single dealer was crazy enough to take on too much, you risk losing distribution for 1/3rd of your volume!!!  Additionally, if one dealer is selling 1/3rd of the volume that  dealer had potential for incredible influence on the company.

The joy of publicly traded companies.  Chasing the next quarterly report ;)

No different than tech companies laying off thousands and then next quarter having to try to hire people back - because they view every decision based on the next report.

I would think a customer would demand at least some type of demo. If not in the same boat another one with something close.

Going into it blind and then complaining after the fact is kind of on the buyer IMO. Salesman might think the one being ordered sounds great based on his past experience listening to the same setup in another boat, but that is very subjective between different people.

Don’t know if this is pointed at me, but I knew the stereo and amps were garbage and yes I was on the boat for a day before I purchased it. I did not want to do a stereo delete this time. I was just gonna do what I have been doing. Make amp plugs and put my own amps in and replace the sub. This is my 4th brand new Malibu. The stereos have gotten consistently worse over the years. The Rockford stuff was actually pretty good you could atleast tune those amps.  The next boat will have the bare minimum stereo then I’ll build from there.

With that said the fact that Malibu would send boats out with the stereos as bad as they are is what upsets me. And that Wetsounds is ok with their names on it. Heck the factory amps I pulled out of my 2023 M220 boat are a joke.

    • I think you're on the right track.  I had similar symptoms in my previous boat (Prostar 205).  Like you, I narrowed it down to the tilt helm assembly.  Replacing it resolved the issue.
