are you getting no reading when trying petroleum jelly to test?    we put one of those units in my friends response and could not get a reading that way.   It might work to sand the hull flat where you are going to put the transducer.  I also know that Hawkeye will swap you for the thru hull transducer.  My friends boat is only 1/2 way installed b/c he was not sure what he wanted to do.     if it were my boat I would not hesitate to drill it

I can get a reading with petroleium jelly test but it says like 300-400 ft (when the depth was actually like 20ft).

I wanted to try and avoid drilling holes but sounds like I'll probably just swap it out for the thru-hull. I imagine that is probably the most accurate anyways.

And they never did anything about it?  I had mine replaced twice, but they needed to hear it rattle (vs my videos), which was a pain since they had to have the truck overnight and my work schedule typically does not work their services hours.

Sounds like you had a very lazy dealer.

They acknowledged that it had it but claimed it didn’t meet whatever threshold needed for Ford to replace it. They told me if I left it over a weekend in the winter that they could somehow document the cold start that way and get it fixed but I honestly didn’t want to deal with that.

The Ford dealers around here are terrible. Closest dealer is literally 2-3 months out for any work, then said they would need it for a minimum of two weeks to do anything with the transmission. Next closest dealer had it for 10 weeks two years ago to fix the rear transaxle (while every week saying it’s only a couple days away from being fixed). Third dealer is the one that told me above on how to document the cam phasers and didn’t record anything about the transmission on my last visit.

the dealer it’s at now is 32 miles from my house. But worth the drive as they are finally taking the issues seriously.

    • Dash looks great.  No Perfect Pass or cruise control of any brand?  For skiing that is a must have.  Did you have to repair the dash screw inserts on the gray plastic housing?
