People talk about TheMalibuCrew in terms of how "different" it is. Think about one of those differences for a moment: lack of advertising.

Why wouldn't you allow advertising? That's crazy!

When we started this community in 2005, we felt strongly that allowing vendor ads would be the wrong decision and we still feel that way today. Forums that engage in a lot of advertising can potentially do well enough financially, but the experience for the members is at best subpar and as a result the sense of community is almost always lacking. And as forum administrators, we did not want to be burdened with the conflict of interest that occurs when trying to moderate a forum while at the same time trying to keep advertisers happy. All of this to explain why we have always held the anti-advertising stance. This is a member-driven community that is autononmous in how it can and does operate, and it would not be that way with advertising in place. It has been this way since day 1.

But it's free, why should I spend money on it?

Because if you want to see this community continue as it is, members need to support it financially. Some of the benefits that members enjoy as a direct result of the community include:

  • A community of members that care about each other
  • Knowledge about Malibu, Axis and general boating that is freely and often happily shared from hard earned experience
  • Technical information about specifications, repairs, maintenance, modifications/DIY, and riding
  • Lifelong friendships that are made, often transcending the boating world

What will I get if I decide to subscribe?

We work hard to add value for our subscribers. Among other things, subscribers enjoy discounts on boating and watersports products through popular vendors such as Bake's Marine, Wakemakers and Domed Numbers (to name just a few), as well as access to group buys on larger ticket items. The cost of a subscription could be paid for many times over by simply taking advantage of a few of these benefits. And think of the warm-fuzzy that you'll get from supporting something that gives you so much in return. All of the proceeds go directly to supporting, maintaining, and improving the site.

So what do you say? Will you buy us some gas? Websites, like boats, don't run on thanks.
