The recipe on my 2002 was the following:

  • 100lbs lead in the bow (under nav light)
  • 50 lbs lead ballast in starboard bow, behind aft cupholder area
  • Another 50lbs lead ballast under starboard seating (or behind helm seat)
  • Full center locker ballast
  • 750lb bags in lockers, about 2/3 to 3/4 full (more full with people up front)
  • Heavier crew in front of boat; others forward in the lounge and more on surf side than other side
  • Nauticurl on opposite side of surfer, adjacent rudder and angled downward so that when surfing it is perpendicular to the water flow.

Note: the 2 ballast bags on the starboard side was to correct a portside list in the boat, so position any other weight accordingly.  With crew up front you gotta be careful about taking water over the bow; lots of posts here about how to drive when over-ballasted but be careful.  Also, moving the Nauticurl around changes the wake; find your sweet spot.  Further back steepens the wake, further forward lengthens it.  Keep it low enough that water isn't splashing up high but instead going around it.

Hey, Thanks so much… still trying to assess whether it’s worth all that or upgrade to like the teen years of boats(2013-2017)….
Thx again
