01 response gauges not working

Recommended Posts

What’s up everyone, first time on a forum and first time owning a Malibu. I have a 01 response lx and my gauges don’t work. I have signals/voltage coming from computer to gauge connector. I’m thinking bad gauge.

i found one for 800 bucks. Wanted to ask you guys what you thought before I went after the gauge.

Thanks for reading

Do you know if this uses the medallion unit? One of your gauges is the multi-gauge? Does your system have perfect pass or the depth gauge in the cluster?

As I recall, my medallion unit had voltage to it, but nothing coming out. So, I bought a gauge system that skips the computer and sends the signals directly from the sending units to new gauges, and the speedometer is separate and now uses GPS.

I'd be surprised if all the units in the multi-gauge would go bad at the same time. And these were working well recently?

Search Medallion MDC MMDC repair. You'll find lots of advice on how to resolder within the medallion, how to test it by swapping gauges, to check earths, etc.

If that all fails you can DIY rewire replacing the gauges with marine analogue gauges, or if really keen develop your own bespoke touch screen type solution. However the simplest, cost effective and quality solution is buy a TRD kit that deletes the Medallion and gives you plug and play new quality gauges https://skiboatpartsonline.com/Inboard-Ski-Boat-Parts/TRD-Conversion-Kit-Medallion-MDC-1600-1/  That's what I and many others have done.

If you're comfortable with a soldering iron, this might be worth a try before going with the more expensive options...  (still working for me 6 years later)

Yea it’s medallion controlled. Has perfect pass. Gonna inspect solder on the board tmwr. Hopefully I can solder it back together
