1999 Response LX top of the hull under cover issue

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am trying to understand what is going on in order to see if it is fixable or not.  The top portion of the hull under the cover is yellowish compare to all the rest of the hull.

I tried to polish a bit with no luck.  not quite sure if it is:

1.- Cover color transfer to the gelcoat?

2.- lack of sunlight, the boat is supposed to be yellow-ish everywhere and not white-ish.

Any clue?

thanx

I would say you are getting some color transfer from the cover.  I've actually have the opposite occurring, I have a cockpit and bow cover that I use while moored next to my houseboat, and the gunnel not covered is slightly yellowed.  I use a buffer and light compound and it restores it to correct color.

Gelcoat is pretty tough stuff.  A simple polish usually won't do the job.  A wool pad on an orbital buffer or DA polisher with some heavy rubbing compound will probably take that off.
