K&N cone filter substitute on monsoon 340??

Recommended Posts

There may be one, but I have never seen a paper filter assembly in a KN form for a boat. Closest non KN style replacement may be the old style stacked metal disc filter like my older Mercruiser engines had. They were attached to the TB or carb with a band clamp also. Not much filtration going on there but the oil didn’t really look much dirtier that what I am seeing now.

@redrooster - Absolutely, although paper elements don't like water, K&N simply copied air filters at the start of their business.  It depends on what specific K&N filter you have, if it is more than a simple filter You should be able to do a cross reference via part number, Donaldson is one of the very best paper filter manufacturers.  Prior to the K&N fad, the item to keep debris out of the inlet is called a spark arrestor.  There is not a lot of dust on the water so a restrictive filter is really not necessary and paper is really not a good substitute in a closed marine engine bay.  Best solution and correct one is a traditional spark arrestor, either a screen mesh or metal bands.  Zenith makes several varieties.

@hunter77ah - not legally although an air filter fire is very rare.  A backfire could be an issue.

Yep, removed the spark arrestor and put in a K&N style air filter.  In my state a spark arrestor is not required with fuel injection.  I couldn't find a K&N that fit but another off brand did.
