Screws/Bolts for Engine Mount Support Bracket

Recommended Posts

During my annual shaft alignment procedure for my 2018 Malibu 21VLX, I noticed there was a screw/bolt missing from one of the support brackets for one of the front engine mounts. It could be a lag screw or a bolt. Looked around in the bilge and did not see it there. I could remove one from one of the other mounts to figure out what it looks like, bit it occurred to me that it could be a bolt held with a captive nut of some kind, or regular nut, in which case I might not be able to easily get it back in. So thought I would check here first to see if anyone knows type and dimensions. I searched several websites that have Malibu parts but did not come up with anything.

My 03 VLX had all 4 motor mount to stringer bolts loose when I checked during winterizing this year. If I remember correctly, it is a 3/8 bolt going into a split lock washer and standard nut. I don’t remember the length, maybe 2”?

It is a bit tight getting your fingers inside the stringer to hold the washer and nut to get it all put back together, but it’s very doable.

 Good luck

Very common but not talked about much. My 2018 I used to check and or tighten them yearly. All machine bolts with lock washers and nuts. As said above, pain to reach through stringers on mine but doable. I had to have a spare set of hands to reach both head and nut through stringer on some of them. I have already had my bolts on my new Supra tightened too!
