2007 Illusion X Tower Mounting Speaker Can Bolt Size?

I just bought some Krypt cans for my 2007 Malibu VTX Illusion X tower.  I'm trying to figure out what the bolt size is.  Someone had mentioned 5/16"x18 TPI....I purchased those and it doesn't seem to thread right....maybe it's the rust in the socket, I don't know....just wanted to make sure that was the right size.  Also, how long should the bolts be?  Any help would be appreciated!

IIRC, they are 5/16x18. If the holes have never had a bolt threaded in, then they likely have powercoat and oxidation built up. I'd start with a thread chase (not a tap) and clean them out. 

Length is going to depend on whats being bolted to the tower. Id want at least 3/4" of bolt threaded into the tower.

Had the same issue with my tower on my 09 VTX. Did what MLA recommended. Used PB Blaster as well while slowly running the thread chaser in and out. Little at a time, thread chaser in till I hit resistance, then back out. Again and again till finally it cleaned up. Bolt went right in after that.
