How to set timing 94 Malibu Echelon

Recommended Posts

I have the manuals but they only contain timing instructions for Thunderbolt  IV and V ignition systems. What I have is an ignition system with a module that has one 4-pin and one 2-pin connector pointing straight out from the base of the distributor. Does anyone know if I need to enter some sort of timing mode to set the timing? And what should the timing be? There is a connector near the distributor that has two pins and the plug terminates these two pins, I suspect it is perhaps some sort of diagnostics plug but when I unplug it the engine dies.
The engine is a MerCruiser 350 CID magnum EFI tournament ski SN 0F225697

Setting timing on a carburetor engine with a Delphi distributor requires a timing shunt plugged into the unused connector on the distributor.  The engine needs to be running before connecting the shunt wire to 12v power.  If the engine stalls, disconnect the shunt wire before cranking again to avoid ignition module damage.

Here is a video description of how it works.
