AXIS T250 Steering Wheel replacement DIY info

Thought I would create a seperate post to share how I switched out the wheel on my 2022 T250.    Not a difficult project but took me several trips because I didn't realize my tool kit on the boat was metric only and I also needed a steering wheel puller.  I think if you follow my list of tools needed you can get this knocked out in an hour max.

Parts and Tools:

Wheel:

I got mine here and purchased "The OX"  version.   Any of these should work as long as they don't have the integrated hub.   I didn't want a wheel with any Chrome or bright metal spokes so I chose this one with anodized spokes.

Adapter:

This is the part that was recommended from CP performance.

CP Performance also has some directions on install but I hope to give a few more details. https://www.cpperformance.com/c-2240-steering-wheels-adapters.aspx

Tools used:

Steering wheel puller (loaner from advance autoparts).

Rubber mallet and a steel hammer

Breaker bar

Long and short handle ratchet

3/4" socket for wheel nut.

One larger socket 11/16" or so for help with installing wheel.

4 and 5mm allen keys or sockets.

If you have a hammer or impact drill this might help with removal and install of the wheel nut.

Removed steering wheel.   To do this I removed the stock wheel cover, mine was broken but there is a screw/bolt that you can access from the backside of the wheel.

Once you have access to the center nut, I loosened with the breaker bar after turning wheel all the way to one direction to lock it in place.   Be careful not to strip the nut and make sure the socket is engaged, the nut doesn't have a large surface area for the socket to engage.

I wasn't able to remove the wheel without the puller so I had to remove a couple of the allen bolts and then use this puller to get the wheel off.   https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/powerbuilt-tools-kit-14-heavy-duty-steering-wheel-puller-648645/9150019-P?searchTerm=steering+wheel+puller

Once the wheel was off I fitted the adapter, installed the washer and used a larger socket to hammer the adapter onto the splined shaft.   It took some work to get it to seat all the way back and it definitely wouldn't push on by hand.   I installed the washer and the nut and tightened until it was snug.   This is where a hammer drill might help.

This is with the allen bolts installed to hold the wheel to the adapter,  these are one size larger heads than the allen bolts that the factory wheel uses.
