SPN 707 FMI 3 on 2010 23LSV with the Indmar 8.1L

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

my 2010 23LSV with an Indmar 8.1L is giving me an SPN 707 FMI 3 error about 20-30 seconds after the boat is started.  It runs fine however.

I've done some research and have found some threads that say this is a "low oil level" error code.  So I'll obviously check the oil level and I also read to make sure the connection to the oil level sensor/switch is good.  I've read that it's on the "side of the oil pan"....does anyone know which side of the oil pan?   Also, does anyone know what the part # might be?   I've searched and the only thing remotely close that comes up is a "oil pressure sensor/switch"....but nothing for a oil level sensor/switch.

Any other suggestions to check for this error?

Many thanks in advance for any and all help.

Sincerely, Roger

Hi All,

for those that may run into this, this is the GM part # for the Oil Level Sensor for a Vortec 8.1.   It's on the port side of the oil pan, just above and a little behind the oil change/drain hose.  It requires a 1 1/8" wrench or socket to remove it.   Obviously, make sure you drain your oil before you attempt to replace this or you'll end up with the majority of your oil in your bilge area.   Make sure the old o-ring comes off and be VERY careful that you thread the new one in correctly.   The part is plastic so the threads are easily damaged if not threaded in correctly.  It took me about 10 minutes to get it to thread in correctly.  Do it by hand initially.  When it's not threading correctly, it will bind/stop about the 2nd or 3rd turn of your wrist.   When it is going in correctly, you can do it by hand for the first 10-15 turns of your wrist (and then you can transition to your wrench/socket).

Hope this helps.
