I have been looking at used Wakesetters in that 2010 to 2015 range and i keep seeing stories about the maliview screens and i am thinking maybe i should be looking at v rides or axis or a 2008 wakesetter that does not have that screen, any thoughts

If looking in that range of years, I would be looking for a surf gate boat way before I worry about which screen is used.  You didn’t say which size you are looking for, but if the 23LSV, 2014 was the first year of a new hull with surfgate (2013 did have surfgates, just on the previous gen hull).   And 2015 got the more modern 12” and 7” displays.

well i was looking for a 20' or 21'

Okay.  I would still pick based on Surfgates, which came out in 2013.

The VLX gets a bit confusing in that range.  I think the 2013 and 2014 is a 21VLX, that is about 21.5’ long.  The 2015 VLX is a 22VLX, with the 21VLX making its return in I think 2017.

You can find info on this site talking about screen replacement.  1 or 2 aftermarket replacements are now available to soften the financial blow of replacing the factory screen.

surf gates > screen issues.

Yes it sucks to buy a screen.  Thankfully there are a number of alternative options that are driving that cost down and hopefully that trend continues.  It's kind of a tough issue because it seems like it wouldnt be a big deal at all if medallion priced these more ethically down in the $500-$1000 apple ipad cost range.  However for whatever reason medallion and malibu seem to not be motivated to get the costs down.

Surf Gate + PW2/3 is arguably the best surf tech in the entire wakeboat industry.  If you really cant handle the thought of having to fork over cash for a new screen then take a good look at axis boats.  They are very awesome boats.
