Long storage area in the floor

Just bought a 2022 Response TXI late last season and just getting a head wrapped around this beautiful boat.  Can someone tell me what the long storage area is on the walkway up to the open bow can be used for ?  It has a removable mesh liner and I believe a drain hole. My dealer said it can be an ice cooler which makes sense but the mesh liner is throwing me off. Thanks for the help on this.

Thank you for the response. Makes sense. I’ll see about ski fit and reply back. To be honest a big cooler doesn’t seem out of the ordinary. I have a tower as well has two ski rack behind the pilot seats so storage not a big issue.

In my experience, no one ever puts a ski there and it's only good for collecting water.  The older LXI/TXI model did have a black fiberglass cooler built into the floor right in front of the engine, absolutely stellar design.  With a great bag of ice, it might last 20 minutes on a warm day.

Modern ski bindings are probably too tall to fit but we have a pair of 1970s combo trainers and a 1985 Obrien in the locker on my dad's VLX. Not sure how roomy the lockers are on the new TXi.

I think it's designed to be a ski locker but mine just holds water unfortunately. Bad design in my opinion that any water that seeps into the main hull around the engine area drains forward into the ski locker when the boat is on the lift. I ended up putting a rubber plug in mine to try to keep the water from filling up the compartment all the time.

Same as the previous posts, suppose to hold skis, really just collects water.  We empty it frequently with a plastic cup and a hand pump.  I leave the hatch open while its on the lift, otherwise it gets a pretty bad smell in there over time.  Terrible design that could have been easily fixed if they just put another drain in there like the one in the floor of motor box.
