Best board for kids starting up

Hi all! New surfers here. What’s the most forgivable board that my 9 year old can grow into being a beginner? He’s about ~65lbs. Thank you!

For me, for the money, the HyperLite Shim has been a go to board for years for the new and accomplished surfers. You can run all 3 fins for the beginners and just the single small fin for the more advanced surfers.

Phase 5 scamp. Made a huge difference for my then 70 lb kid that couldn’t get any other board to flip on edge when starting.  That is still her preferred  board even though she is about 110 lbs now…

I second this.  This board is so light it pretty much flips itself with just the weight of your kids feet on the edge when the boat starts moving.
