Sportster back seat mod

I was taking out my back seat on my 99 sportster to replace the fuel gauge sending unit. That was a pain in the A$$!

Anyone got mods or anything to make the removal of the seat easier than contorting my body in ways I didn’t know possible to get to all the nuts?

Given I use my boat as a slalom tug, the easiest is to simply store the seat in the attic.

As a solution, you could put 3M dual lock in place of the bolt / nut combo.  May sound a bit odd but check out how Goode attaches their Powershell water ski boots to the ski, a combination of dual lock.  The seatback has enough mass that it should not need a lot of fastener grip to stay in place.  I would not use a full length strip, several individual strips would be plenty.

I don't recall - does the sportster seat back rest on the floor, or is it a little suspended when in place?  If it sits on the floor, I'd probably just leave all the nuts off except the two ends and maybe the middle one that you can easily get through the vent.  If it hangs, then, I'd do a combo of that and the dual lock Woodski mentioned at the more inaccessible fastener locations

Whatever you do, don't forget to vacuum!! (sorry, couldn't help myself)

Haha! I bought the boat at auction and it sat under a big tree for many months before auction. I cleaned the rest of the boat super well but got a good laugh when I pulled the seat off!

Good question! Pretty sure it set slightly off the floor. Thinking about just replacing a few of the nuts instead of all of the super hard to reach ones.
