Am I having the proper power to rpm ratio

Recommended Posts

I grew up around lakes and very familiar with the water lifestyle but I’m am very new to owning a boat. I recently just bought a 1998 Response LX and I was wondering if I’m getting the correct MPH to RPM ratio out of it. At about 4500 rpms, I am only going about 35 MPH with only myself and one other person. Thanks in advance for the replies.

Rpm should be closer to 100:1. 35 MPH should be 3500-3700 RPM with a driver and single passenger with no ballast. Are you sure your speedometer is reading correctly?

I too just got a 98 Response LX! I bought it from a lower elevation and had to reprop it for my elevation. I used the prop finder tool on Acme's website and researched a little around here to land on the right prop for me(ACME 525). I had the opposite problem though as I was low rpm for WOT per the indmar manual.
