2014 TXI Lost neutral lock on SkiCommand MM1000

Help Please.

I did search and found some older posts on this about 2012 TXI's,  and to buy a new skicommand was about $600.  Its now around  $1,200.00!. So I have lost neutral lock All other functions

still work.  Dealer says just replace whole assembly, but it seems so simple like the spring has gone bad. I can move the thin rod up and it will lock into neutral. once I engage into frd or rev pressing top button it just does not spring back. I've been advised to remove controller and see what I can see, but I am apprehensive.  I absolutely love my 2014 Response TXI and want to do the right thing. Any advise would be appreciated!

Thank You oldjeep. So as I understand this , The problem may be a clip in the top part of shifter. In the top ball. I will study this link more and attempt to Dig in. You helped me before when I first got my new (new to me) 2014 Malibu TXI a couple years ago. Appreciate your Wisdom! I just don't know if I will dig in now and possibly spool the last two weeks of skiing or wait till I winterize. As I look at your profile I cant believe it.!!! Your from Victoria MN.  The course on Auburn Is Mine with a partnership of other young guns. I now am on Bass Lake and installed a new course here. I would love to meet you!

If you are that close, I have a spare e-clip you can have.  The post by Frank C in that thread I linked has a good description of the whole process.

But basically you are trying to get down to this point where you can see the e-clip holding the lower spring.  Worst part is getting the button out, need to be careful not to break the tabs.

Turned out that it was another e clip failure.  It was nowhere to be found, but there is space for the pieces to fall out the bottom of the shifter ball.  Next time I replace one I am going to tie a piece of dental floss to it so that it is easier to find each time I launch it while trying to install.
