Unseated prop but it doesn’t slide off the shaft

Recommended Posts

I used my prop puller and unseated my prop from the shaft without any problem. It will slide about 1/2” down the shaft then it is binding. I can easily rattle the prop on the shaft but can’t remove it. My guess is it is somehow binding due to the key. Suggestions?

Use a small punch and pop the key out toward the rear.  If that doesn't work, use a 2X4 and a mallet (or your purse) and whack the front of the prop hub.

@justgary and @oldjeepthanks for the tips. When I first attempted to remove the prop the boat was on the lift and I couldn’t reach the prop very easily. I loaded the boat on the trailer today. The key was stuck in the prop keyway. I used a block of wood and had to use my “purse” to drive the prop off. I ground the key down some before installing my spare prop.
