I have no idea what causes the coil to blow. But I wouldn't be surprised if you have a fuel pump or vapor lock problem.

Check the "no start" guide and let us know what you come up with.

I would "work" the kill switch (with boat off), in case it has an intermittant disconnect. And then while the boats running, gently test the switch. Small movements should not let it disconnect(shut down the ignition).

And replace your distributor cap, if it's a flat top.

Thanks for the reply, its the ignition module that has gone out twice. new distributor cap, new rotor, new plugs and wires.  Did check the kill switch, works fine.

The ignition module and the coil are not the same.  The coil should be as tough as a hammer.  The ignition module is very heat sensitive, so make sure you clean the plate and use plenty of thermal grease when you install it.

Check all grounds associated with the distributor and coil. Is your tachometer acting normal? The thermal transfer paste mentioned above is a must.

I was wondering what the white stuff was when I pulled the module off, plenty on it.  For the tach, it's never worked in 5 years that i've owned the boat.  Someone said it might be the alternator.  I've ordered two modules so the boat doesn't leave me stranded on the water again.

if that tach gauge is part of the combination pp and tach it's a known / corrosion issue.

not all that difficult to remove/open/clean that tach to get it working again.

My tachometer just stopped working the last 2 times I've had it out.  any instructions or tutorial on how to remove/open/clean?

again, if it's part of the combination pp and tach (spell check trashed my original post i lied, twas just a senior moment)  pull a few nuts from the back of the gauge and carefully pry things apart.

those brass nuts are located on brass studs that the mfgr used to carry electrical power to the boards within.

you will find corrosion on those connections.  clean it up and maybe consider a touch of solder at those joints and i'll bet it will be working again.
