Best money I have spent on something for the boat in a long time...

Recommended Posts

I ordered a "Spotify Thing" for my boat and so far... this "thing" is awesome and super practical for the boat.  We happen to be Spotify users... so any time we are on the boat we are playing music via Spotify from my phone.  I have a 2019... so no build in apps in the boat.  The "Thing" is just an auxiliary display for the Spotify app that is on your phone... it has a touch screen and has some buttons and a wheel to make navigation super easy.  I mounted it on the passenger side and plugged it into the USB port in the glovebox.  The "thing" doesn't have a battery, so it turns on when the USB port turns on... and the one in the glove box is powered by the stereo, so it powers on and off when you turn the stereo on/off.  Now I don't have to have someone grabbing for my phone while I am driving, etc. Passengers can easily scroll through playlists and choose what to play, etc.  It is a simple solution, but works really well.

I have one as well, even 3D printed a block the same size as my iPhone to mount it in the dash phone holder. I haven't used it but once since it basically does the same thing as the phone. Maybe mounting it on the passenger side it would get more use.

I thought about putting it somewhere in the back to make it even easier to access (mounted on the inside of the tower leg would be a great place).. but I am not sure how waterproof it is.  I am sure a splash or two would be fine, but probably not something you want a ton of water getting on (boards dripping, etc.)
