Analog Tachometer on PP stopped working

Recommended Posts

So I just got the boat last week and had it for the first time on the water, 2004 Wakesetter, noticed that the PP and all gauge are working but the needle of the analog tachometer doesn’t.

I asked the previous owner and he said it was always working and I think it was actually working when we ran it first at his location.

can anything happen on the hauling? Wind? Wires?

I tried to look under the dash (and that’s a cluster of wires lol especially with that fancy sound system).
Is that something that occurs often? Quick known fix? Which wire should I look at? Where? There’s a part at the engine side I should look at?spacer.png

this fault was common about that time in history.

fix is to carefully pull the display apart and clean up the mechanical + electrical stand-off used to ground the circuit boards.

fussy work but it is do-able.

i'd saved bookmarks to a couple of topics discussing same but a tmc system glitch blew away some archived content.

the waybackmachine has an archived copy of one of the topics.

my bookmark was "http://www.themalibucrew.com/forums/index.php?/topic/14759-2003-lxi-tach-wpp-analog-part-died-but-pp-works-fine/" and the internet archive found this: https://web.archive.org/web/20150910152421/http://www.themalibucrew.com/forums/index.php?/topic/14759-2003-lxi-tach-wpp-analog-part-died-but-pp-works-fine/

my second bookmark was "http://www.themalibucrew.com/forums/index.php?/topic/11987-tachometerperfect-pass-malfunction/?hl=%2Bperfect+%2Btach", should you decide to chase it.

oh, welcome to the crew.  nice looking rig.

I have that problem sometimes on that gauge too. I just flick it at the center of the needle, and it pops right up. That always works for me, so I've never really investigated it. I also have the PP set to display rpm as well.

You are very not alone, my 03 has the same problem. Good to know about the diy fix for it though.
