this chesapeake bay magazine article states that "Beginning April 20, new U.S. Coast Guard regulations takes effect that change extinguisher expiration dates and the minimum classification of fire extinguishers".

i browsed uscg web site to verify https://uscgboating.org/recreational-boaters/fire-extinguisher-faq.php.

Thanks for posting this.

I thought I might add that I generally never "dispose" of a fire extinguisher, I just move it to a place that doesn't have enough of them (like my wife's car or my shop).  Two or three small ones in the boat are not a bad idea either, placed in separate locations.  Only one needs to have a current date and have enough pressure, but they don't say you can't have more.

I keep one of these by the driver's seat, and stash them around the house, shop, camper, etc.  Perfect for small fires, or for getting to your larger extinguisher.  Won't make a massive mess like a dry-chem extinguisher.  I'm not sure I would want to go after an engine compartment fire with it, but I'm not sure I would be going after an engine compartment fire with any type of portable extinguisher.  Give me my turnouts, and a proper line.  This would be perfect for a small electrical fire, though.

I just used something similar to that on Sunday.  I had a grease fire in my smoker (time to clean it out) and it was perfect for that.  You are right, they do not make much of a mess at all.  I only used a small portion of the can so I believe it is still usable.
