2008 247 LSV Subwoofer enclosure options?

Recommended Posts

So my JL Audio 12" infinite baffle sub crapped out and I'm looking to replace it. Anyone have any suggestions on what to put in its place? After discovering the direct replacement would be $1,000 for just the sub I started looking at other options like buying an enclosure or even building one. Searched but couldn't find any threads that address this. Could anyone point me in the right direction or help me with some ideas?

Did it burn up or did the foam come apart around the outside cone? The foam can be replaced pretty cheap.

Check our Kicker marine free air as a replacement. Just be sure to match the same impedance (ohm value) as your current speaker. I can’t believe JL wants $1k for a sub. That’s nuts.

If it was mounted through the false wall under the helm, not surprised if failed. An 08 LSV cant support an IB woofer of any brand.

Again, if under the helm is the desired spot for the woofer, which is the preferred spot, then I would highly suggest a woofer thats intended for a small enclosure and build a quality marine grade custom enclosure for it.

I honestly don't know what happened. I don't know exactly when it went. One day it was working and the next it sounded like garbage. Everything seems fine with it but the sound. It looks perfect and there is no scratching or anything when I push on the woofer.

Yes it was mounted in the kick panel under the helm in the open air. No enclosure. Any suggestions on what to put there? Sealed or ported enclosure? What sub? Do you know of any builds I could replicate that would not be too hard for an amateur diy? I've been considering buying a pre-built enclosure, installing it, and disguising it behind the kick panel or something like that.

Sealed is the most straight forward build and is the most forgiving when it comes to design and hitting the desired internal volume. Will be smaller as well. Ported will yield more output, but the enclosure is larger, more complex and you need to spot on with the design and get the volume and port specs right.

What would you suggest as far as a subwoofer and sealed box for my Rockford Fosgate p500.2 amp? That's the amp that was pushing the JL. Thanks for the help!
