Tilt steering play

Recommended Posts

I have a 1994 Malibu flight craft sportster. A lot of play in the steering wheel somebody told me it might be the CV joint in the tilt steering has anybody experience this?

Could be the u-joint in the tilt unit or just one of the bushings/bearings.  If it is the original tilt unit then it already had a good long life

If it's a standard morse tilt setup, you can try to tighten it up by pulling the boot back and finding the two allen head screws in the u joint and tightening.  I didn't have much luck with that approach on mine though.  I replaced mine last year and the steering is much more precise now.  They're made of cheap Chineseium and wear out.
