05 vlx check engine alarm

Recommended Posts

I have an 05 vlx. Just had it serviced and I’m getting a check engine alarm every once and a while. Have to shut it off and it’s good to go. Anybody have an idea what to look into first?  Seems to do it when the boat lists to one side in a turn or if the bow is high in the air. My first thought is a water in fuel sensor or something else fuel related. All my gauges are reading normal.

Oil pressure?  What is your oil level?  Somewhere I swear I saw a Service Bulletin or something like that from Indmar saying it is OK (encouraged) to over-fill by 1 quart if engaged in surfing, especially if you're listing the hull due to oil starvation and consumption issues.

Oil pressure doesn’t skip a beat. Fresh oil filled to the full mark. I don’t think that’s my problem. My local malibu shop is a joke. I really want to avoid taking it to them at all costs.

You may need to look into purchasing a diagnostic code reader like Diacom or TechMate from Rinda.com if you are going to try DIY diagnosis and repairs on your boat.  The MEFI4 diagnostic manual is available on this site, but you may need other tools to properly find and correct trouble codes and running issues like a decent auto ranging digital volt ohm meter DVM, back probe jumper test wires, etc...

Loose cables and electrical connections or corrosion causing voltage drops are the most common cause of problems I find in most boats.
