Boattrader.com

I found a bunch of nice ones, including mine at flipsell.com, but that site has been down for a while now.

Also there is a broker at www.centralkyinboards.com that is very helpful in the sale and purchase of boats. He listed mine for $35/fee and $500 if he sold it. And he promotes it and takes care of alot of the footwork.

Might be worth a shot. His name is Brandon Cruise.

...where would they have the best luck listing their current one for sale? Just wondering. :)

www.boattrader.com I sold 3 Malibu's, a runabout and numerous pwc through them. I also, list it with the photo ad print option as well. Many peeps pickup the rag at 7-11, Circle K or car wash etc.

craigslist.com is also a good free alternative, I've generated calls but no sales. Usually those guys are a little more price sensitive :)

flipsell.com, not one call ever.

^^^^ I agree. Boattrader is good.

Craigslist and Ebay (buy it now) are excellent marketing resources to generate interest. They do however attract a “tougher crowd”, and a lot of craigs list people are a pain in the butt.

That being said, in the last year I have sold both a car and a boat. The car I listed on autotrader and craigslist. The boat I listed on boattrader, craigslist, and buy it now on ebay. I sold the car for top dollar due to the craigslist add, and I sold the boat for my asking price due to the ebay add.

Craigslist and ebay are defiantly a good way reach lots of people and generate lots of interest!

I sold our last boat due to listing it on Wakeworld. Lots of action came from both Boattrader & the local paper, more actually than Wakeworld. It just happened that the guy saw it there & was hooked. Of course it was a nice boat in top notch shape, that always helps. :)

Bought my boat from a dude in SoCal off BoatTrader.com

Be sure to include a decent description, and lots of pics of the boat on the trailer and on the water - interior etc... Great pics really make the add

I placed an ad on several sites, but the serious buyers inquired from the BoatTrader ad. A couple of emails from boat brokers on Craigslists and one (I believe) scam artist and no response from the other sites.

Thanks for the info. It looks like Boat Trader wins in a landslide. Maybe I'll list it and see if any interest is generated...

So looking at maybe a new VLX then?

I'd love to but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't fit in my garage. I think the VTX is more likely.

Just curious, what does the VTX have that your VLX doesn't? I don't know too much about the new model.

It's 1'6" shorter 33 gal gas vs. a 46 gal gas tank and 2" shallower draft. Weight is also 300 pounds lighter than the VLX and one less passenger capacity. The idea behind this boat is for private lakes that only permit a 20' boat.

How about Usedboats.com? Their pricing is much more attractive than BoatTrader. BoatTrader is $55 for 4 weeks - Usedboats.com is $39.95 till it sells. I'm thinking of listing our Gekko there. I was going to wait till spring but since that price is good till it sells I'm thinking why wait? Anybody else look at Usedboats.com?

so you save $15? Never even heard of usedboats.com

I think the value is in the coverage - vs the initial out of pocket cost. Plus I don't care for the look/feel of the usedboats.com website.

Crap - drop the extra $40 and list it in both places

I agree wit Sac. Use good pictures. Most folks (myself included) never even look at ads without pictures. (I like to watch... Biggrin.gif ) My last boat sold in 3 weeks on boattrader.com to a couple of guys from SoCal.

In January I'm not expecting my boat to sell in 4 weeks unless I'm giving it away. BoatTrader is $55 every 4 weeks if you want to keep it listed - and that's their cheapest package. Ebay is good too, we bought and sold two boats on Ebay.

True - it isn't the busiest selling season... buuuut, SheepRides is ridin' his flock in SoCal (not quite like sellin a boat in Jan in UT) and it is boat show season, also a good time to sell with people looking at used vs new
