99 Sunsetter LX vs Sunsetter 2001LXI wake

Will the salom wake on the 2001 be any better than the 99LX? Based on the hull configuaration, the table says the LXI is the diamond and LX is the Wake. If one was going to do both which boat would be the better choice?

Thanks!

LXI hands down. Yes, I'm biased :). Even so, I'm right :)

LXI - It's pretty easy to make a small wake bigger, but nearly impossible to make a big wake smaller. Plus the LXI will give you more interior room & storage.

Anybody else wonder if there is a bunch of engineers who have spent the last 20 years improving the ski boat's wake wandering the streets looking for a job?

What do you mean - becuase there are not advances in ski boat wakes? Maybe they're working on wake-boat wakes.

Picky, Picky, Picky...

Little slow today RTS?

I guess I should have added 'without changing the hull', but since we were comparing 2 specific boat models and years, I thought that would be obvious.

Or more completely... It's pretty easy to make a relatively small wake of the 01 LXI larger, but nearly impossible to make a relatively bigger of the 99 LX wake smaller.

The answer to the original question is the 01 LXI will have a better slalom wake than the 99LX.

The LXi is a good boat for everything that can be done on the water, period. It will even surf with 3-4 peeps and 400lbs. Not great but it works in a pinch.

Are we talking serious slalom? If not, and you board quite a bit then I would consider a vdrive with the diamond hull.

Actually, my comment was meant tongue-in-cheek to express my feelings that all the boat manufacturers are increasingly stacking their lineup with wakeboard boats, to the detriment of the ski boats (especially my beloved Sunsetter LXi...pre '04 in particular).

I know it's not as simple as adding weight and horsepower to plow those beasts through the water to get the bigger wakes, versus the finese required to make the smaller wakes, but I also feel that it is less of an engineering challenge to make the wakes bigger vs. making them smaller...hence the comment about the small wake guys looking for jobs. Sorry, jbrooks, about inadvertanly hijacking your thread....I have an '02 Sunsetter LXi, and I wouldn't trade for any other boat (right now), so I'd recommend it.

But as others said, it would depend on your mix of sports and also your level of competence at both as to whether or not the Diamond or the Wake hull is a better fit for you.

OK - I missed the sarcasm in your text.... And that it was just the small wake guys you were referring to.

Hopefully by the time summer gets here, I will have upgraded to a SLXi classic too. We do both the swervy stick (sometimes even around those pesky floating balls) and visit the dark side when we're tired, but desire the space to hold 4 adults & 3 - 5 kids for most of a day on the water.

You have obviously not spent hours playing with fat sack configurations Cry.gif

Don't need to it's a slalom boat. ;)

You're the problem, not the boat. Surprised.gif
