LED RGB Installation

Raleigh

Recommended Posts

Got my RGB lights installed finally. I tested 8 different RGB LED kits from Amazon before settling on this one because it had 1) waterproof 2) remote control 3) iPhone app 4) microphone in the controller unit. Very happy. Just zip tied the lights to the wiring up under the gunnels. I hard wired into one of the batteries so I could bypass the interior lights.

I hooked up the 12 v battery connector and ran it under the walkthrough to the area behind the subwoofer (was able to remove the subwoofer panel). This is where I connected and ran all the LED wires to. Each light has a dedicated wire. I had to break apart the 120v to 12v power box on the LED controller and I soldered those to the 12 v wire. Worked like a charm.

Here is a list of all products used. I ended up learning to solder (it was easy) and soldered them all. Hard wired into the battery. Cut open the transformer box on the lights, and wired it into the 12v extension.

Cost me $150 but if you already have a soldering kit and connectors you can do it for under $100.

$30 GUSODOR LED Strip Lights RGB

$13 RGB Cord

$8 4-way splitter

$10 used these to connect to the cut pieces of the LED strips. You have to really get this in right. No soldering needed on these.

The remote has a few color options. The app has infinite RGB color combinations. The music sync doesn’t work that great, unless you upload songs to the app. Otherwise, I’m very happy and would do it all over again!

My next step is to add switches to the interior lights so I can turn them off. I’d love to have the red logos with the red rgb and none of that white light nonsense.  You can see a couple photos where I have the actual interior lights turned on too. I like the option of having both.

Here’s a photo of my Jerry rigged workstation. Soldering on the boat probably isn’t recommended but I found it to work the best for soldering the cabling into the splitter at the attachment point.

Sounds like a neat setup! I've done something similar, but used a different kit. Found waterproofing crucial for durability. The iPhone app is a great touch for convenience. It's impressive how you managed the wiring and soldering yourself!

I recently got myself an RGB LED kit because it was waterproof and worked with my smart home setup. I had a tough time at first, especially connecting the LED bulbs to my smart home system.

What helped was making sure the LED bulbs and my smart home system could work together. Once I got that sorted, I carefully put the bulbs in place and paired them with the smart home system using the app. I also assigned each bulb to a room in the app, making controlling them more accessible.

If you're thinking of adding more to your setup, here is the solution for hooking up your lights with a smart home system. Just check if they're compatible and follow the setup steps.
