difficult to pull the Trans/Vdrive - 08 VLX

Assuming I don't have to pull the engine, how hard would it be to pull the Transmission and Vdrive.  Being told my rattling issues (thought it was the damper plate) is now what appears to be something in my transmission that may be going bad.  This boat btw runs great and did before I took it in.  I was just concerned the damper plate was going out.  I'm going to get the boat back from dealer and drive it this summer like I stole it.  The slight rattle was there end of last year.  I'm thinking I can baby this thing until it goes out.  The rattle did seem to appear when I hit a small log late last summer.  Bent over a few blades.  didn't think much of it until a few weeks later I heard the noise.

I'm a technical person, but not an engine guru, but seems to me that the Trans and Vdrive can't be that hard if I don't have to pull the engine?  I also have some friends that are full time mechanics that are willing to assist.

If it is a driveplate and you beat it till it breaks it will destroy the bell housing.

To remove both units you have to pull lean back, disconnect drive shaft l, pull trans mounts, loosen motor mounts and lift rear of engine up.
