Trailer for 2001 Sunsetter

Recommended Posts

Cabinfever97

Hello, I’m a new Malibu owner and new to this site.    I am looking for some help.  I just purchased a Malibu 2001 Sunsetter

I am in need of a trailer.   The boat will be trailered during our Minnesota summers.     Does anyone know a good place to find a used one or should I fork out the $5,000 + for a new boat mate trailer?      Single or double axel?   Thanks in advance.  The boat is in storage for our MN winter so I have several month to search.

LX / LXi or VLX?  DD vs Vdrive makes a difference on the trailer.

I personally would only do a dual axle.  Won't be easy to find used but can be found on occasion.

In MN a used trailer will be tough. You might be able to get by cheaper with a Phoenix trailer - midwest mastercraft/midwest watersports sell them.  Not as nice as a boatmate but should be a lot cheaper.

Ryan Trailers in Portland Oregon area makes very high quality trailers.  He built many 2001 Malibu trailers.  Including the one for my now sold 2001 Sunsetter LXI.

Greg is a nice guy to work with too.  Choose as many options as you want or standard trailer.  Also recommend a tandem axle trailer.

It is a ways away, but try G&M Trailers in Surrey BC.  They built trailers for western malibus for years and have all the patterns.  My 20+ yr old trailer from them is doing fine.  Plus you benefit from the USD/CAD dollar conversion.
