Temperature fluctuations

Recommended Posts

Hi 1st weekend in the water water temp going up to 3/4 on the Guage. Was crusing at slow speed when noticed the temp was high, accelerated and temperature when down to normal for a short time then back up to 180 + backed off throttle and temp went down to 100. I changed the impeller and thermostat but temp still running high. Could it be a head gasket?

Could be thermostat or engine circulating pump.  What boat/engine?

Id say that you have a blockage somewhere with your water flow.

@marshall48:  Most likely initial idle high temp was due to insufficient prime on the raw water pump, acceleration primed it and then the extended run with temperature creeping up is due to debris in system, most likely on the inlet side of the transmission cooler as noted above.  It could also be a malfunctioning thermostat that has corroded over your winter storage period, but check that after you check for debris or impeller parts in trans cooler.
