'98 Sunsetter blower motor not working

Recommended Posts

The engine compartment blower is not working on my 1998 Sunsetter.  The button indicating a tripped fuse pops out when I attempt to turn it on.  However, I can't find the actual fuse or the motor itself (which has had a pretty good grinding sound for the last couple of years).  I found a likely vent hose in the back by the gas tank, but the motor itself doesn't seem to be next to it.  Does the motor itself sit on the back of the engine, or where could I find it (as I suspect that I need to replace it)?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Sorry to be dense here...I just want to be clear we're talking about the same boat configuration.  My Sunsetter is a direct drive where the ski locker is right next to the driver seat.  I've got an accordion hose in the back by the gas tank, which is linked to the exhaust vent in the back of the boat and the upper part of the back fiberglass above the swim step (which I can't seem to access).   It would make sense that the motor is next to these, but I can't see it or get to it.

Any other thoughts?  Thanks!

They are talking about the rear ski locker - the one behind the rear seat on some direct drives.  I don't think your 98 has one - so it is likely behind the rear seat itself

Yes. Sorry. Mine is in the rear ski locker so I bet yours is behind the rear seat if you don't have a rear locker.

The blower on my direct drive 95 response is mounted behind the distributor on the back of the engine. Follow the hose you found above the fuel tank to the other and and you should find the blower.

The blower in my 98 ss lx is mounted behind the rear seat on the starboard side, up in the corner.  I changed mine last season. Not a fun little job just because you can't get both hands in there where you need them and have eyes on it.

Mine is also behind and next to the distributor on my Echelon direct drive.  Very accessible, if yours is not there I would suggest mounting it there.  The passenger side goes down to the bilge, the drivers side goes out the transom.  The motor is mounted in between them where the hoses meet.
