The check valve on the vent line is from the bag and like the WM rep said, it creates a little suction to help drain the bag. This is how the WM system is designed out of the box and I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt when it comes to it's operation. Of all the issues I've heard people complain about regarding the WM piggy back system, "tin canning" the rear hard tanks has never been one of them. I understand you are essentially building your own piggy back system so of course do what you think is best but my feedback is directly related to the complete package that WM sells.
