2007 malibu wakesetter NO SPARK.. HELP

Recommended Posts

Jasewakesetter1

I have a 2007 malibu wakesetter 21 vlx. I was out on the lake yesterday and it died as I was coming up to the dock, I restarted it then went back out. It ran fine for an hour we stopped to fill the ballast and the boat cut off again, I once again restarted it and put it in gear it engaged but wouldn't actually go faster than an idle then it shut off and wouldn't start.

-Fuel pump cycles when key turns on

-no spark at the coil

-has 12 volts on both wires at the coil

I replaced the coil, the pickup in the distributor along with cap rotor button wires and plugs.. Kill switch was also bypassed by previous owner.

Showing 7 codes on the dash

-spn 65602 etctps1range data erratic

-spn 65605 etcpps1range date erratic

-spn 65605 etcpps1range bad intelligent device

-spn 65610 etctps12correlation data erratic

-spn 65613 etcpps12correlation Data erratic

-spn 65618 etc return mech system not responding properly (doesnt always show up)

-spn 65621 v5buff_b voltage short or below normal range

I've exhausted everything of my knowledge on this boat but I'm out of ideas any help or input would be greatly appreciated!

Jase

Looks like they are all throttle position error codes.  Check the connectors on your throttle body and your throttle lever

I just checked the connections on the throttle itself and it seems to be connected properly and the one on the throttle body is connected as well. Would these cause the boat to no have spark?

if the boat is not seeing the throttle in the neutral position it will not spark

I'm pretty new to the boat world but I thought it wouldn't crank over either if it wasn't in neutral

not 100% sure on Malibu.  My last boat - bayliner the neutral switch was just inline with the lanyard switch.  Would crank but not fire if throttle was not in neutral.

Okay yea not 100%sure either but pulled the switch off the throttle and was playing with it and it threw a other code but once I put it back to normal the code went away

PPS sensor located behind the throttle control box? sounds odd but you can try the ole Fonz "happy days"  just hit the throttle with a fist. sometimes the PPS get stuck, its a temp fix and should be replaced. i believe there were issues with 06 and 07?

check for corrosion in ECM connectors.

what about the IC module that was mounted to the ignition coil bracket? did that get changed with ignition coil?

good luck

I found the problem I had a loose wire on the Ignition.. Seems odd that, that was the problem
