RF punch knobs for zone control

Recommended Posts

It appears on the 2016 Malibu you could plug a "punch" knob into each amp and essentially use that for zone control.  I understand they don't have equalizer capability and essentially are just a remote way to turn down amp gain.  But, if I tune the system with the knobs turned up, couldn't I essentially use them as zone control to turn down the amps? Seems like a nice solution for about $40 (2 knobs) to get zone control on my boat. What am I missing here?

The RF unit you linked appears to be the same one in my '10 and it has the blue light that matches my 420 lights. Even plugged into my 420, I can still use the RF sub remote to control the volume of the sub. I never mess with it because everything I need is on the 420, but it will work "as a volume control" with my RF sub amp.

Well, this may not work quite like I thought.   The factory had the punch knob on the sub amp, and it looks like the tower amp (PM300x2) can accept another one, but the cabin amp, the PM400x4, may not have the input for the punch knob.

I dont think the punch line allows for the bass knob to work in any other mode besides low-pass. This is common with most amps.

That's essentially what I have. One for cabin, one for tower, one for sub. So, essentially one to each amps overall gain control.
