With all this talk about broken engines and electronics I think I'll just park everything with cylinders and batteries and hope there's good wind for the sailboat! :boat:

Yep. '03 wakesetter needed new engine last Aug. Had 600 hrs on it. My guy bought one(said he has used these guys alot) from ebasic power. Put it in and ran for a minute and locked up. That was #2. #3 went in shortly after and has run well till now. Started running really rough. Just had compression checked. 0 in #3 and #6 cylinders. 96lbs in #4. Called EBASIC and they said had 1 year warranty. That ran out yesterday of course

Sounds like EBASIC can't build an engine worth s***.

After a quick google search looks like there are a few horror stories about these guys.

Out of curiosity, how cheap is an ebasic rebuild compared to a brand new motor from michiganmotorz?

$2859 for a new long block

vs $2399 for a rebuild

If it was new then what has that got to do with eBasic power?  Comes in a crate from GM and they resell it.

Jebus, I hope your guy gets a discount.  They are selling the same new crate engine for $1000 more ($3895) than MichiganMotorz ($2859)

Looking at my invoice paid $3,395 for the motor. They are stamped GM from EBASIC. Supposed to be exactly what came out more or less.

Why did you need a new engine at 600 hrs?  Those engines should go for much longer unless they aren't maintained well.  Is there some other underlying issue causing these engines to break down?  Seems like it since the engines are all just being resold it should not matter who you buy it from.

Piston came apart inside on the original. I bought it at about 400 hours. I know I took good care of it but not of original owner. The boat itself was kept up nicely so figure the same on motor. I have no explanation. Had a 2 yr warranty but the guy at our lake who worked on everyone's boat has closed his shop. I am SOOL it seems

Very likely a detonation issue. If not it could have had more piston to wall clearance then speck.  If I could look at the parts its easy to see.  But a very small chance of a bad piston but not likely. Other small chance would be piston pin problems.
