Is Power Wedge worth it?

Recommended Posts

Portugue

I have a 2003 23LVS and want to add a wedge as my boat only has the bracket on the transom. I saw a power wedge for $1500 and was wondering if it will fit and is it worth the extra money? I want to mainly used it for surfing.

you could probably save a bunch of money just doing a floating wedge.

not worth the hassle, go floating.

How does a floating wedge work? Does it just settle into a position based on the speed of the boat and how does it differ from a "Manual Wedge"?

There was a video floating around but I can't find it. I seem to recall that it doesn't actually move much with increased speed like you would think. It moves to the optimal position and pretty much stays there. Guys with the power wedge says they run wedge "up 2 clicks" and that's about where I remember seeing the floating wedge settling in at. As opposed to the fixed manual wedge which locks all the way down and has 2 slider pins.

If I had a choice I would go with floating over power. The power wedge has so many glitches that cost a lot of money to fix.

I've had 9 hassle free seasons with the power wedge. I'm a little against the grain here, but I'd hate to reach down and deal with a manual wedge after all this time.

Not too bad. When mine got to around the 850 mark I started getting a lot of random wedge is moving up messages and still have yet to figure out what it is. That's going to be the #1 project this winter.

Power wedge all day, so much more wake control than floating. Well worth the $ imo.
