whats that rear window thing/protector?

Headache rack - used on trucks that people use as trucks to keep the cargo from coming into the cab.

It is a headache rack, but in this case it is not used to prevent cargo from coming into the cab as any cargo would be sitting in the box.

It is for transporting something longer than the box. You would rest the item on the rack and strap it down either with the tailgate open or closed.

The rack can be removed.

the box is professionally sprayed with that black rubbery stuff (btw).

Only if what is in the box is square ;) Try putting a table saw in the truck and you'll grow to appreciate one of the reasons it is there.

lol, that is a good point, however with the locking cover, probably not going to have to worry about stuff flying out of the box.

the real value in the rack is hauling stuff. It really came in handy when hauling 16' decking material.

Yup, that is why the racks are on my truck. Can't really imagine having materials sitting at an angle from bed to rack though but I suspect that whoever makes that rack sells the back legs for it too.
