Trans Filter

Reading other posts on this subject shows that many people think that cleaning the trans filter screen is kinda like lubing the starter bendix....really not needed and you may cause more problems than fix/prevent.

BUT...in looking at the owners manual, the picture that is given is completely unclear as to where the filter is and how you get to it. Now I am just wondering if anyone has done this service on the new Ski-Vee trans and where the filter is located?? Just a curiosity thing really. Even my dealer says he never does that service unless there is a real problem.

I can't answer where the filter is on a Ski-Vee since it's so new. But, I'd assume it's on the bottom of the unit. Just like a car. Also, the ZF trans. filters are in the bottom of the trannys. It's got a flat rectangular plate covering the area if I remember correctly. I actually bought a filter and then realized what a pain it was going to be to replace it and have never done it. That was like 4 years ago.

All I've ever done to my boat and others is just suck the fluid out and replace it. It's usually pretty clean anyway.

I was figuring that it is on the bottom. When I changed the trans fluid I took a quick look around and decided that there wasn't anything obvious or easy. Although I agree that changing the fluid often is the way to go, I'm curious as to where it is located and what it really takes to service it.
