starter bendix

hi all,

the owner's manual says that one of the things to do for the 50hr service is to lubricate the starter bendix with lithium marine grease.

does anyone have a picture of where it is? or at least an idea of how to locate?

does it need to be removed to lube or can you just spray it with the lithium spray from the local boat shop?

No one does it, and I don't really think it's necessary.

But, if you really want to know, you'd have to completely remove the starter motor (after you disconnect any and all batteries) then put the lube on the little shaft that has the little gear wheel looking thing on the little external housing of the starter.

One of those only-fix-it-when-breaks kind of things. Did it on my lawn tractor this year after 12+ years of service and neglect.
