DIY vs Dealer 50hr

I've cut a 2 liter bottle in half and place the bottom half of the bottle under the filter. The filter just drops into the bottle and any oil drips fall into the bottle as well.

BTW - I've found that you dont need a oil filter wrench, altho they do come in handy. If you dont have a filter wrench, just drive a screwdriver thru the side of the filter and use the screwdriver to twist the filter off. Just make sure that you have something to catch the oil from the holes in the filter.

I've done this too. It works very well but can be very messy. The filters should not be that tight.

Another quick cheap method is to wrap a piece of sand paper around the filter to help you remove it by hand.

Unfortunately I don't live 'near' Pete. He's sworn NEVER to come back to my house, unfortunately :( Drive's a bit too far.

And you believe that's the real reason? ;)

It's those KIDS, darn it, something has to be done about those kids!

For the cost of an oil filter wrench, I'll keep my bilge oil free. Definitely have to try the diaper trick though. I put a big ZipLock® around the filter, but it gets very difficult to unscrew when the inside of the bag is all oily. . .

Also, I've placed a disposable foil lasagna pan underneath to catch any stray drips. Bonus is that it is all greased up for whatever the CFO is making for dinner! Crazy.gif

The real reason is my trailer. I thrashed the brake system and then diagnosed it incorrectly.

All fixed now though. But I think I've scared him off for good. :)

What do you mean diagnosed incorrectly? We started with what was obvious and then it grenaded from there. Cry.gif

Anyway, I'm back to having nigthmares again after that SLR homebound story. :(

I wasn't going to tell it. But heck, why not.

Look for the SLR homebound story coming soon...
