Pylon pole stuck down, Is there a trick to pop this free?

Recommended Posts

Crustymuffin

I tried to raise my pylon pole for the 1st time on my 07 VLX the other day. As I under stand it, Twist the head and pull up right?

The head just spins freely and never actually turns the lever/bolt to unlock and raise the pole. Even my buddy with a 2011 VLX could not get it to raise.

Am I missing somthing, or is there a trick to this?

They seize tight. You need to hit it with a hammer from down below to free it up. Spray some wd40 on it also.

LOL "Use a HAMMER" Pretty funny but honestly works! Rubber mallet works without making marks

When its hot, I think mine expands and is super difficult to get up, when it cold, it comes up freely

My '05 ski pole was seized when I bought it. Previous owner used the tower exclusively. Had to use a slide hammer.

I coiled a rope around the top and my friend and I used it to pull it up. Mine had sand in it.

Lobbing watermelons, I'll try to refrain :-)...

If you do happen to unstick your pole... then try sanding the contacted surface with 320 or higher grit and spraying it with a moderate amount of clear penetrating grease and wipe off the excess.

I had to use a bottle jack on top of the transmission to get mine out, then I used my die grinder with a 400 grit sanding drum on the poly inside the tube. Now I take it out every year, wipe it down, and shoot some silicone spray on it.

Had the same issue.. Once I was able to pull the pylon pole out, I used a round file and went around the plastic poly tubing a few time shaving it down. Worked like a charm.
