Curse words.

I used the word Jackass without the Jack. While I can understand the need to keep profanity at a minimum it would be cool to know what words are not ok. Is there a list? I'm just asking because Jackass without the Jack doesn't seem like a curse word to me. The other thing is anatomically correct words for genitals. I was dinged for using the correct name for 'dong'. It starts with a P and ends with Enis.

Admin, please clarify the complete list of non-compliant words (obviously you can exclude the obvious ones).

I'm not trying to be a male urine squirter but rather I am actually ill informed on the matter.

For something like that I think its silly to slap you on the wrist, if you can handle the word in real life it seems silly to limit it on a message forum. I can understand F-bombs should be kept out, but calling poo the other name doesn't seem all that awful to me either. No offense to anyone, but I don't think this is a church mingle site so limiting the word you mentioned seems over the top.

Adding on to this, I would like to know who the admins are and how you became one. Are there rules that have to be broken to lock down a thread or is it completely at your discretion. Just curious.

If the site censors your wording, you aren't allowed to use those words.

Really? OH Come on  .... big J stop poking the admin with a stick... The admins do a great job and a lot of work to keep this a good site... they dont need this headache too.

If you you are old enough to write. Then you are old enough to know what words are considered profane. and which are borderline... The admin should not have to produce a list for you... your a big boy now.

If you think a word is borderline, then just simply dont use the word. While i am not offended by any profane words, many others are, so you need to respect that. while in the forums

if there is the slightest question in your mind just find a differant word.

sorry i dont mean to be rude but that is just petty....

It was not made to be a jab, Jack. It is a legitimate question. If I knew what words were not allowed it WOULD make the life easier for the admin because there would be a LOT less editing going on. Not just from me either.

I am old enough to write and I would imagine that if you are old enough to buy a boat that the chances are you have handled much worse language than this forum produces.

The other issue is what you happen to deem is borderline. I watch television and hear lots of bad words. Words that you actually might use in normal day to day conversation. So are they really bad? That's my question. I can understand the use of said 'bad' word used to describe or break one of the forum rules but the way that I used both words I don't feel that the context was out of line. Thus why I asked for a list.

The other thing about the profanity rule is if a filter catches the 'bad' word and 'beeps' it out why would I get a reminder of the profanity rule? It's not like I tried to dodge the word filter by using $$ in place of SS. I read different spellings of 'bad' words all the time. $ ! @ do a fine job of spelling the word without getting filtered. And while I do respect the rules the problem is there are no rules. Is there a context rule? I'm not really offended by anything I hear anymore so my ramblings are pretty PC to me. But I also do not work in a setting where the corporate PC machine is breathing down my neck for any idiom that might be mumbled in fear of some crazy lawsuit.

So my point is simple. While Wakegirl gets to choose the words the filter catches I think a close look at the context of the word used should considered before giving a reminder of the rules that vaguely exist at all.

And you are right it is kind of petty but I feel like my use of the words I mentioned were not in the context to warrant a reminder of the rules. So I thought I would ask about the rules. Maybe I should of sent the question in a PM but I can't imagine I am the only person on this forum to wonder what the 'bad' words are after getting a reminder about the rules.

Sorry if I offended anyone. It was not my intent. The words and opinions stated by me in this and other posts is the sole responsibility of Big Jay D and has no relationship to themalibucrew as a governing body of this website, www.themalibucrew.com

I hear you on the context. I was reminded after using the phrase "cats-butt" (with the 3 lettered $$ version) when describing something. As I was typing it I considered whether it was okay and than figured because it's a regular slang saying it would be fine. I use acronyms like SOB or SOL all the time. What is the difference between someone typing that into google and being offended?

For the record I'm not trying to argue, just supporting some of what big jay has said. In the end I'm just having a very slow day at work.

It would be pretty silly for someone to list the words that you can't use since we do not allow the words in the first place. It wouldn't be a big stretch for anyone to agree that these words are used by many people in their everyday language and in their opinion it's OK. The thing that changes that is there are many people that do not resort to using that language and it is offensive to them. There are times that members are reading the forums with an underage child sitting in their lap, etc. To respect those people, the rules are in place to use no profanity in the forums. There are many places where we know we shouldn't use profanity in our everyday surroundings. This is one of those places. The Membership here has a level of education that would let them recognize the proper use of the language. Use a little common sense and make your point without the profanity. If the filter kicks it out, it's not allowed. If you try to get around the filter, it's probably the wrong word to use and your in violation of the TOU. If you feel the absolute need to type those words, do it somewhere else. Pretty simple.

****, , ****, ****, ************, and ****.

Just testing..... :innocent:

BTW, I'm surprised at the words that got thru the filter. Supposedly that's the 7 words you can't say on TV, but you can say a couple here? Or maybe that's just a funny comedy routine.

There's actually quite an art to non-profane swearing. If you've ever spent any time in Utah, you've surely heard Mormon expletives, like "oh my heck!"

Lived there a few years and been through it. Didn't want to offend anyone though but yeah not sure what's worse... The real curse words or fake ones they used.

Really? If cussing on this forum is so important to you that you have to talk about the do's and don'ts then you really need a life. I say go find a foul mouth forum or stick to this forums rules. I don't except people using that type of language in person so why should I except it here?

Bill, I know you are way outside the TOU but I laughed out loud all by myself! The people at the camp I'm staying at are looking at me like I may be "slightly touched"!

I know. Sorry to those offended. I was just pushing the envelope that Ronnie laid out for us. I realize those are not good words to use in most any reasonable conversation, much less in a forum thread.

That said, I am one of those guilt of spelling things in a way that the filters don't get triggered. I do it for emphasis, when the conversation is right (like the hangover thread). And even the words I used were not as bad as those the filter allowed here!!

I have to share. I too have been guilty of twisting the filters.

For me and the environment I work in everyday "those" words are common place. I for the worst part don't even realize or recognize them as taboo.

I got warned last week and I just had to agree. See, My wife has been riding my A... about it around the little ones an I have gotten more than 30 warnings and stink eye looks on the last few months. I just had to laugh when I got spanked by Wakegirl because it was so fitting. All these fancy ladies naggin me, but its the truth, so I need to work on it and am making a concious effort since.

Personally those words don't offend me depending on context and how they are directed, but agree this is probably not the right venue to spew them. Too many folks get all sensitive around here way to often and like Ron Ron says, you never really know who may be reading.

I will tell you this much. If you can't take the many multiple names for a pooper or the turds themselves I do not see how you could get through a day in the environment I work in. Sometimes you just have to let stuff roll off you. Can't filter and shelter yourself from everything in life.

This is my opinion, but I find swear words in general to be funny. Why on earth did the shortest and simplest words to say when you are mad, get hurt or need to tell someone off become bad words.

If you made shiitake(like the mushroom), bodacious or lets say frustration swear words I would never swear! One sylabble words are way to easy to say. I am doubting you say oh my lanta when you smash your finger working on a vehicle or the boat!

You can always tell when the weather begins to turn around here.

For those of you that find this to be a problem, just remember that everyone here has a different perspective on what's acceptable & what isn't. We're trying to keep things clean for many reasons, some of which include being able to continue browsing the site at work. Keeping it clean helps that image.

Now, Ronnie's right about posting a list. We can't exactly do that can we? But if you're unsure, just put the word into your post & then preview it. The filter should kick in & give you your answer. I'll take a look at the 7 words you can't use on tv, I thought that all of those were in the filter but it could be that they're on an exact setting.

Thanks for that Bill.

Since I left my last shop of 10 guys and now have a place to myself my wife has had to remind me far fewer times about language around the house.

"In the heat of battle my father wove a tapestry of obscenities that as far as we know is still hanging in space over Lake Michigan".

I remember when I was in 5th or 6th grade. Coming home from school, walking in the door with books under my arm and lunch box in the other hand. I cradled the books under the lunch box arm to open the door. As I openend the door, down went the books, into the wet snow. "Son of a _____". And there's my dad, standing in the hallway looking at me. He actually never said a word, just gave me a glare. I've swore like a truck driver since I was in 4th grade.

But - I also know there's a time and place for everything. You don't swear around women or children, or even around guys in certain settings. This is an internet forum, and you're better off playing it safe rather than being offensive.

Edit: And it was a Planet of the Apes lunchbox. Yeah, that's right.
