How to use USB inputs

Might be a stupid question but I tried hooking my iPhone up through the USB inputs and got nothing... I have a white USB port that kind of hangs uder the dash and then another USB in the glovebox. When I tried the on under the dash I got nothing, in the glovebox I got a message "USB RD" that flashed but nothing worked... Any ideas?

Also, I want to use Maliview to watch movies for the kids but don't know how to do that either...

For iPhone you will want to use the iPod cable that you should have gotten with your boat. I've never had luck getting the USB connection to work for streaming music, I think its just for thumb drives.

If you have an iPhone 5 then I think you can use this to plug into the iPod cable:

http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD823ZM/A/lightning-to-30-pin-adapter?afid=p219%7CGOUS&cid=AOS-US-KWG-PLA

Though to be honest I haven't tried it yet as I always just stream over Bluetooth. With my iPhone 4 I was able to use the iPod cable no problem.

Not sure about videos...

I have used a 4GB Kingston drive for the USB and been able to make it work.

As PKH has listed above, iPhones (iPods, iWhatevers) have to plug in through the iPod 30-Pin cable. And yes, if you have a newer iSomething you will want the Apple adapter not a cheap knock off as this adapter actually converts the digital audio to analog for our stereos.

The ports that hang under the dash are for the Maliview and MTC so that the dealers can perform firmware updates. They're not connected to the stereo.

I was able to plug in the USB and it would start to read and then stop. I saved a video from iTunes on it- wonder if the format has to be a certain way.

Thanks! I tried the Kingston drive and it starts to read it and then just goes to the main screen, basically stops reading it. Do you know if files or videos have to be a certain format?

Also, I have two USB under dash. White one hanging there and then a black one that I assume is for maliview. I hate this stuff not working!
