Hi Guys,

long time looker first time poster.

I am looking a 2004 Malibu wakesetter LSV and I have a couple questios. Its listed by a non malibu dealer on cosign. The engine was replace early on under warrenty by Malibu he said, there is 200 hours on the gauge and he pulled the ECM hours and it was 195.

Would Malibu reset the hour guage on the dash? I am just trying to get a feel for how many total hours are on the boat.

Thanks in advance.

Anytime you put a new ECM/computer in a boat, the engine hours are back to zero because the computer is new. Hope this helps. Hopefully the guy has the paperwork from indmar showing the motor was rebuilt or a new one was out in...just for reasurance. For what it is worth, i have a new ecm in my 07. mine reads 6 hours on it.

Thanks Mac,

Just to be sure when they replaced the engine your dash hour gauge reset? Does anyone know what the dash hour gauge is based from? I'm assuming the ECM hours and dash hours are separate?

Was yours a warranty replacement?

Thanks

I'm actually unsure it reads from the ecm, I don't really know where it grabs it, because I know my hour gauge is off, when I bought the boat I got it with just under 800 hours on the dash but the dealer forewarned me when they grabbed it from "the engine" (i'm assuming they meant the ecm) that it had 900 flat on it, so I do know they can be off.

Thanks for the responses.

The guy has the boat on consignment. Said the interior was replaced recently, but didn't know if malibu skins were used. No cover, was stolen out of storage. The engine was replaced under warranty early on but no paperwork.

Not sure what to think to be honest. If it is a new malibu interior, engine and boat each read less than 200 hrs could be an all right deal.

I would think that if the engine was replaced under warranty, you could get the serial number and run a check with indmar directly. Might be worth doing a check.
