Sub Placement 2012 VTX?

Hi there- taking my boat to get stereo installed and was wondering if the VTX has enough space behind the wall under drivers seat (foot area) for a 12 inch sub and basic box. I don't want to spend 450 for a custom built box. Ideas???

It depends on what you mean by a 'basic box'.

If it's a typical off-the-shelf automotive or truck box using water-soluable construction, four sides pre-carpeted and folded around two ends and glued together, it won't last. When the seams fail in the first year, which may be concealed by the carpet for seasons to come, the sound quality and power handling will be affected and the woofer lifespan will be shortened as the spider (main mechanical suspension) prematurely fatiques.

Also, it is critical to elevate the subwoofer enclosure up and off the sole to allow for drainage and evaporation. Moisture can be wicked up through almost any protective sealant plus you don't want a mold and mildew trap.

I have a 1.3 cu/ft side firing box in my VTX but I did have to move the kick pannel forwards. A typical box 13x13x13 will require you move the kickpannel forwards.
