Relocating the head unit on '08 LSV

I was thinking about purchasing a Kenwood 700HU. I wanted to mount it on the right side of the dash under the switches. I will have to build a bracket to make this work I guess. I have viewed many threads and have not seen anyone who mounted the head unit this way. Is this a good idea or not? What are your thoughts?

mla, not sure i understand the question. Are u talking about putting the h/u in the glove box and the remote next to the driver. The reason i am getting rid of the old system is becuase, the ipod connection does not work, i cant stand the way the volume is set up. I want easy controls of volume (turn nob style) and stations.

I may be misunderstanding your original question, so forgive me if I am. Im reading that you want to relocate the head-unit, which will be replaced with a new model as well, from its current location to a new location on the bottom edge of the helm. This will require some in depth fab work to construct a mounting fixture as well as all the rewiring. Is this correct? If I am understanding your goals correctly, then I would have to weigh the amount of work involved against the access to features.

My question is, what function or feature will you be accessing on or through the head-unit on a frequent basis that can not be done on or through a head-unit remote? There are a few marine head-units that offer decent Ipod/MP3 interface control through the remote. But if you like to control directly through the Ipod, then consider just extending the AUX cable from the head-units current location over a remote jack at the helm. Most head-units will allow you to store tuner presets on FM1 and FM2 as well as scroll through SAT station or CD tracts. All have push button volume though, but many have Mute.
